چکیده
We give a new residual intersection decomposition for the refined intersection products of Fulton-MacPherson. Our formula refines the celebrated residual intersection formula of Fulton, Kleiman, Laksov, and MacPherson. The new decomposition is more likely to be compatible with the canonical decomposition of the intersection products and each term in the decomposition thus has simple geometric meaning. Our study is motivated by its applications to some geometric problems. In particular, we use the decomposition to find the distribution of limiting linear subspaces in degenerations of hypersurfaces. A family of identities for characteristic classes of vector bundles is also obtained as another consequence.

Canonical rational equivalence of intersections of divisors
We consider the operation of intersecting with a locally principal Cartier divisor (i.e., a Cartier divisor which is principal on some neighborhood of its support). We describe this operation explicitly on the level of cycles and rational equivalences and as a corollary obtain a formula for rational equivalence between intersections of two locally principal Cartier divisors. Such canonical rati...

First order invariants of generic immersions of manifolds of dimension nm−1 into manifolds of dimension n(m+1)−1, m, n > 1 are constructed using the geometry of self-intersections. The range of one of these invariants is related to Bernoulli numbers. As by-products some geometrically defined invariants of regular homotopy are found.
متن کاملRepresentability of Algebraic CHOW Groups of Complex Projective
Let X ⊂ Pn+r be an n dimensional smooth complex projective complete intersection of type (d1, . . . , dr). CHr(X) denotes the Chow group of codimension r algebraic cycles on X modulo rational equivalence and Ar(X) denotes the subgroup of the codimension r algebraic cycles that are algebraically equivalent to zero. In 1990 James D. Lewis made a conjecture on the representability of Ar(X). We wil...
متن کاملThe Spacetime Superalgebras from M-branes in M-brane Backgrounds
We derive the spacetime superalgebras explicitly from “test” M-brane actions in Mbrane backgrounds to the lowest order in θ via canonical formalism, and discuss various BPS saturated configurations, based on their central charges which depend on the harmonic functions determined by the backgrounds. All the 1/4 supersymmetric intersections of two M-branes obtained previously are deduced from the...
متن کاملCohen-macaulay Residual Intersections and Their Castelnuovo-mumford Regularity
In this article we study the structure of residual intersections via constructing a finite complex which is acyclic under some sliding depth conditions on the cycles of the Koszul complex. This complex provides information on an ideal which coincides with the residual intersection in the case of geometric residual intersection; and is closely related to it in general. A new success obtained thr...
